What Ductless Mini-Split Installation Involves
A mini-split system connects an outdoor compressor unit to one or more indoor air handlers through a small refrigerant line set, which is why it works well in spaces where running full ductwork would be impractical or too costly. We evaluate the space to determine whether a single-zone or multi-zone system fits better, since a multi-zone setup lets several rooms be controlled independently from one outdoor unit.
Placement of the indoor unit affects both performance and appearance, and we discuss mounting location with the homeowner before installation, factoring in airflow patterns, sunlight exposure and how the unit will look in the room. The line set connecting indoor and outdoor units is routed through a small wall penetration, sealed and insulated to prevent energy loss and moisture intrusion.
As with any refrigerant based system, correct charge is critical to performance, and we set this according to the manufacturer's specification and the actual length of line set installed, since longer runs require charge adjustments. Once installed, we test heating and cooling operation, confirm the remote or app controls are functioning, and review basic filter maintenance with the homeowner.
